About

I am Annie Burke.

I want more people to care about the land we walk on, air we breathe, water we drink, and food that we eat. And I want more people taking more action so that our grandchildren can walk on the same trails, breathe clean air, drink clean water, and eat healthy food.

I work at the Bay Area Open Space Council where I:

* Convene a growing community of people, organizations and agencies who care about protecting land from development, and connecting people of all kinds to that land.

* Lead the organization's fundraising efforts with diversified revenue sources and increasing unrestricted revenue.

* Write and photograph the Open Space Council’s work for our blog, enewsletter, social media (Twitter, Instagram, Flickr, LinkedIn, and Slideshare), and other communications.

* Curate semi-monthly Gatherings, the annual Open Space Conference, a Communications Working Group, and other events that build community, share best practices, and make people smile.

* Lead the Your Bay Area initiative which aims to build a movement of people who care about and take action for the Bay Area’s parks, agricultural lands, and other natural areas.

Prior to the Open Space Council I served in a variety of roles – on staff and as a consultant – with Bay Area nonprofits including Rubicon Programs, Women’s Earth Alliance, and the Business Council for Climate Change. I have built community with innovative communications efforts, taken ideas and seen them through implementation, and raised hundreds of thousands of dollars. I spent four years at Kaiser Permanente deeply involved with change management, organizational development and process redesign. I have a B.A. in Psychology from Denison University and a Masters in Organization Development from the University of San Francisco.
